The objective of this paper is to help students develop critical thinking and sound analytical skills about the past, present and future of accounting theory and practice, ie both issues of conceptualization as well as application. Various approaches to the development of theory in general and accounting theory in particular will be critically examined and different schools of thought in the field of accounting research will be covered. The paper also aims to make students familiar with theoretical and practical issues, and controversies in accounting.

Due to Covid and the need for you to have some certainly this paper will now be fully online.

The content will be the same as was planned for the F2F offering. The paper will be anchored round the three tests and the essay. Specifically the content for each test will be specified and supported by prerecorded videos, PowerPoints and the readings. Each Monday and Thursday mornings at 9.00am I will run a zoom for any queries or clarification there will be no formally prepared material on my part but I am happy to review content. Once I have had no queries for half an hour or so I will logoff from the zoom. I will also make updates via 'announcements'.

The tests will be sat via zoom link where the video must be on at all times, this to ensure that it is the candidate sitting the test. This is to meet the invigilation requirement of our professional body. The tests will run from 11.00 to 12.30, the same as they would have been if we were running face to face. The tests are closed book, ie you are not permitted to access material either from your laptop or other external sources.

The test details will be accessed via Moodle and submitted via Moodle.
