Assessment

There are three components to the assessment in this course. Each one is designed to address the objectives outlined in the course guide.

Assignments must be submitted via Turnitin in Moodle. I will aim to turn marked assignments around in approximately three weeks. Marked assignments will be posted back through Moodle – you will receive an email advising you that your marked essay is available for viewing.

Assessment 1: Reading log x3

Students are to complete three reading logs of 400 words each. The reading log will be based on a questions from the reading materials, lecture or tutorial exercises. Students will need to demonstrate engagement with lecture, tutorial and reading materials in order to do well in this assessment. The reading logs are worth 10% each.

  • Friday 9 August: Reading log 1
  • Monday 2 September: Reading log 2
  • Friday 20 September: Reading log 3

Assessment 2: Group Project

The group project is designed to develop collaboration and communication skills when working as an active and contributing team member. The assessment exercise will be the presentation of the group effort via a 3-5 minute audio-visual presentation (eg. video clip) that is worth 15% of the final mark. The audio-visual presentation will be based on a scenario allocated to each group by the convenor. Each group's presentations will be shown in tutorials.

Assessment 3: Individual Summary (of the Group Project)

The individual summary, worth 20% of the total mark, is a writing exercise (1200 words) that asks students to summarise and reflect on the process of the group exercise, the student’s contribution to the project and collaboration with peers. The assessment focus is on the students ability to be self-reflective and evaluative of their own contribution to the group presentation.

Assessment 4: Exam

The final exam is compulsory. It will take place in the examination period at the end of B Semester. The Assessment Office of the University will publish the date of the exam later in B Semester. The make up of the examination will be clarified in the latter part of the course. All lecture materials, handouts and readings will be considered for examination.

Moodle is the primary online support system for this paper. Students are expected to read the required reading(s) and utilise the material available on Moodle for each topic.

If a notice is sent out via Moodle, it is assumed you will have received it. If material is placed on Moodle, it is assumed you have access to it. If, for any reason, you are unable to access Moodle, please advice Juan so that alternative arrangements can be made until you do have access to Moodle.

Students are expected to utilise the material available on Moodle, but must also undertake the independent research to locate further appropriate material for assessments and other aspects of the paper. Reading a range of academic material relevant to the topic is crucial to adequately complete any assignment.

This paper is worth 15 points - as a full semester workload is 60 points, students should expect to devote at least 25% of a full-time workload to this paper - i.e. ten hours per week through the entire semester, comprised of both lecture and tutorial attendance, and self-directed study - reading, writing assessments and revision. Students are expected to manage their workload to allow for this to be undertaken in a timely fashion.
