This 15 point paper focuses on the relationship between the nervous system and broad functioning of the organism. We present evidence pertaining to the involvement of specific genes and molecules expressed in the nervous system in the regulation of physiological and behavioural parameters. The use of animal models in neurophysiology, physiology and behavioural research is discussed.

This paper is taught through lectures, labs and tutorials. Attendance at laboratory practicals is essential.
Lectures:
the main 2-hour lecture on Thur 9-11am (room S1.03)
the Wed 9-10 am lecture slot will be treated as an online zoom tutorial to address any issues that might have arisen during the Thursday lecture a week earlier (zoom link will be provided on Moodle)
Practical classes:
Thur 2-5pm or Fri 2-5pm E.2.14
Attendance at practicals is essential. Mini reports for two of four circus experiments as well as the report for the Reproduction practical must be handed in at the end of the respective labs.

The internal assessment/exam ratio (as stated in the University Calendar) is 50:50. The final exam makes up 50% of the overall mark.
