What this paper is about
This is one of the six 500-level BIOMO papers of the Molecular and Cellular Biology postgraduate subject.
There is a significant amount of research addressing global biomedical challenges such as obesity, cancer, neurological diseases, cardiovascular disease and infection. This paper will introduce students to the issues faced by researchers in the biomedical space and the current approaches being used to come up with solutions to some of these challenges.
How this paper will be taught
Nine two-hour workshop sessions on selected topics. The class has been provided two hours to ensure active discussion and fair participation. However, in some circumstances due to the nature of the topic and the number of students, it may be more than two hours.
Attendance to each of these sessions is necessary for the internal marks to be awarded. You will be expected to attend these seminars and read the reading list (selection of scientific journal papers) prior to class.

Assessments
How you will be assessed
The internal assessment/exam ratio (as stated in the University Calendar) is 60:40. The final exam makes up 40% of the overall mark.
