This paper is designed primarily for native speakers of Chinese and is taught bilingually. It aims to improve students' bilingual reading skills and to develop students' ability to translate from and into Chinese and English.

The semester will divided into two main parts, the first six weeks will focus on developing students' reading skills and the second half of the six weeks of the remaining semester will involving classroom teaching of some basic theory of translation and students need to do the assignments, by/through practice, to improve translation skills. 为提高同学们的阅读和翻译能力,本课程将根据学生的实际情况并结合课程的教学要求,分阅读和翻译两个阶段来实施课堂教学。

There are two written assignments for this paper: one for reading part and the other for the translation part.

The first assignment is due 28 March (Thursday)

The second assignment is due on 23 May (Thursday)

The assignment need to be hand in to FASS's Information Center before 3:30pm, late submission of the assignment is not accepted.

This paper is worth 15 points, which equals 150 learning hours. You should attend all lectures and tutorials and have to complete 2 assignments and participate in the group activities. You will also be expected to have 2 internal tests during the mid-of –semester and at the end of semester.

本课程为15学分,这门课的学期总学时为150小时。所有同学需按时上课和参加辅导课。全学期共有两次应交书面作业,分别为阅读部分和翻译部分的练习,内容与课堂授课内容一致,主要目的是让同学通过作业来实践体会阅读技巧和翻译技巧。另外还有一次由数人组成的小组翻译实践活动。

本课程共有两次课堂测验, 一次在期中:阅读测验, 一次在期末:翻译测验。
