Paper Description
This paper facilitates immersion experience in a business, industry or other organisation internship. Students spend 300+ hours (approximately 13) weeks immersed full time during normal business working hours in a host organisation they find for themselves. Host organisations may be in New Zealand or overseas. Many students taking this course are paid (wages) for their time in their host organisation, but this is not mandatory and is up to each student to negotiate with prospective host organisations about wages or other forms of payment that might be part of the arrangements they make.
Students in an immersion internship are expected to undertake the projects and work assigned by their host organisation supervisor during business hours and do the academic components of this course outside business hours. The learning hours for the academic components of the course are in addition to the immersion hours spent with the host organisation.
The three major assessments are:
- Students will complete a significant research report on digital business topics of interest, they will report on their learning and skills built through their self-selected research topics. This assessment is completed in the first half of the paper.
- Students are required to lead, and participate in digital news discussions on the business impacts of new digital technologies.
- Students are required to complete a reflective report near the end of the course on their experiences and achievements in the host organisation.
