What this paper is about
This paper is about learning to think critically about online sources, and learning to communicate effectively online. Students will explore digital tools, and practice selecting, reviewing, critiquing, and building confidence with various technologies. The paper challenges students to research, evaluate, and present insights relevant to digital issues.
How this paper will be taught
This paper is taught in Moodle, and is entirely online with no on campus component. The paper is asynchronous, making it ideal for students juggling complex timetables or studying at a distance, due to the flexibility of timing. There will be optional synchronous opportunities for students wishing to meet in real-time with peers and/or lecturers.
Students are advised that there is an emphasis on asynchronous online discussion in this class, via Moodle forums on a weekly basis. It is imperative that students are prepared to participate actively in the online discussions, as these function as tutorial groups where knowledge is built through interaction with peers and lecturers.
Other elements in the teaching of this paper include:
Two lecturers sharing the class
Weekly announcements and reminders of work to prioritise
Regular panopto (video) recordings to talk students through learning challenges
Assigned readings and multimedia resources to explore
Zoom opportunities for help with assignments
A 'Can anyone help?' forum for asking questions at any time
Individual tutorial dialogue spaces for personalised communication with lecturers.
Required Readings
Readings are stipulated in Moodle and accessible via Waikato Reading Lists.
