Assessments
How you will be assessed
Students must download further information and supporting documents from Moodle.
Internally assessed work consists of laboratory-based exercises (mineral catalogue, igneous and metamorphic rock lab exercise, sedimentary rock lab exercise), a practical test and a laboratory-based report. Theoretical aspects of the paper will be assessed in the final exam.
The laboratory-based exercises will be provided to students in class and posted on Moodle, and students should be able to complete these during the allocated laboratory time. Information about the Earth materials investigation report will be posted on Moodle and discussed in class; the report will incorporate activities undertaken during the allocated laboratory time and will require further work outside class time in order to complete successfully. The practical test will be undertaken during lab time.
The internal assessment/exam ratio (as stated in the University Calendar) is 50:50. The final exam makes up 50% of the overall mark.
