Paper Structure

Edit Paper Structure Content

This paper includes three main parts.

The first part focuses on the preparation of geospatial data for creating shapefiles and visualisations,

The second part will focus on advanced hydrology and mechanisms of surface runoff and the development of catchment models.

The last part of the paper concentrates on flood routing and hydraulic models of flood plains.

Learning Outcomes

Edit Learning Outcomes Content

Students who successfully complete the paper should be able to:

  • 1. Apply modern software tools (ArcGIS) to prepare Geospatial data for creating shapefiles, visualisations and solve water engineering problems (WA 3, 5, 10)
will be assessed by project 1.
    Linked to the following assessments:
    Project 1 (2)
  • 2. Apply engineering knowledge to describe and compare a wide range of advanced hydrologic models (WA1, 2, 3, 5)
will be assessed by project 2, test and final exam.
    Linked to the following assessments:
    Test (1)
    Project 2 (3)
    Exam (5)
  • 3. Apply engineering knowledge to demonstrate the mechanisms of surface runoff and stormwater analysis (WA1, 2);
will be assessed by project 2, test and final exam.
    Linked to the following assessments:
    Test (1)
    Project 2 (3)
    Project 3 (4)
    Exam (5)
  • 4. Develop, validate and apply advanced hydrologic and hydraulic models (WA 2, 3, 5, 7, 10)
will be assessed by project 3.
    Linked to the following assessments:
    Project 2 (3)
    Project 3 (4)

Projects report

Each report is expected to include the following materials: original data or model, graphs and analysis, and an interpretation of the results presented. A report template and marking criteria will be provided.

Test

There will be a 2-hr closed-book face-to-face test.

Exam

The final exam will cover the whole trimester’s lecture material. It will be a closed-book face-to-face exam.
