Paper Description
Engineering Work Placement 1 covers the first work placement requirement for BE(Hons) students and is typically undertaken during the summer at the end of the second year of the BE(Hons) degree. Work placements provide students to apply knowledge and skills learnt at the university and develop professional skills through work in industry, agencies and research institutes, as students work alongside professional engineers and others.
Placements are typically secured with the assistance of dedicated Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) Coordinators. Students who intend to undertake a work placement are advised to contact the WIL team via hecs-wil@waikato.ac.nz after applying for the paper through MyWaikato.
The learning outcomes for this paper are linked to Washington Accord graduate attributes WA1-WA11. Explanation of the graduate attributes can be found at: https://www.ieagreements.org/
Note: this 30pt work placement fulfils 400 hours of the work experience requirement of the BE(Hons) and can count towards the Diploma in Engineering Management or Certificate in Professional Engineering Practice
