The course will be taught using a combination of lectures, tutorials, readings, revision sessions and computer based assignments. Dates of tutorials and revision sessions will be announced via Moodle

Important Note for International Students: For international students in New Zealand under student visas, regular attendance is part of your visa obligation and is checked as a requirement on the University under the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students, to which the University is a signatory. Students who successfully complete the course should be able to:

  • Design conventional and advanced potable water treatment unit processes including chemical handling and storage, physical/chemical treatment, filtration and disinfection
    Linked to the following assessments:
  • Design conventional and advanced domestic and industrial wastewater treatment unit processes including physical/chemical treatment, sedimentation, conventional and advanced nutrient removal biological treatment and tertiary polishing
    Linked to the following assessments:
  • Use steady state and dynamic modelling methods for process design including simulation of plant performance under dry weather/storm flow conditions
    Linked to the following assessments:
  • Design and simulate the performance of integrated treatment plants combining primary, secondary and tertiary unit processes.

The physical/chemical treatment and biological treatment assignments will provide some of the modelling skills required for the wastewater project. During the workshops, you will also have time to work on the wastewater project and get advice and feedback from the demonstrators.
