Paper Description
Leadership in today’s Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous (VUCA) environment, requires a differing skill and knowledge set to previous management techniques. Indeed, increasingly leadership (not management) is recognised as one of the most vital ingredients for organisational growth and development. However, the development of leaders with appropriate skills to navigate today’s environment is lacking, and this is at both the global and national level . This course aims to address concerns of business organisations, on the need to develop effective leadership within organisations, with the potential to develop global leaders.
Navigating today’s complex and global business environment, leaders require the ability to draw on multiple perspectives to facilitate growth through their ability to influence. This course draws on psychological and business perspectives of leadership, and the outcome of differing strategies, by evaluating their effectiveness at the individual, team and organisational levels. The paper covers a range of leadership issues including leadership mind-set, strategies for motivating and growth, and influencing others, complex and crisis times, as well as contemporary issues. We build on leadership learnings and integrate these with students’ own personal learning experiences, ultimately culminating in a leadership development plan.
