Paper Description

Edit Paper Description Content

This paper has two components that run concurrently: Internship Consultancy Project and Applied Research Project. Your 531 paper begins with a series of Applied Research and Consultancy bootcamp sessions that will accelerate development of your soft skills and workplace ready skills.

Internship Consultancy Project

You will participate in an Internship Consultancy Lab hosted at the Waikato Management School for over four weeks during which you will work as a team of consultants to undertake an internship project for a local business organisation. You are required to work on your assigned internship project for approximately 20-25 hours each week (total 100 hours). You will work closely with your industry mentor from the host organisation and the Director of WMS Employment Engagement for the duration of this project.

Your internship project will provide you with practical experience to understand a business and their operating environment while giving you the opportunity to build professional credibility. Your internship will provide you with the opportunity to learn how to conduct yourself in business and how to contribute value to the organisation. Through this experience, you will understand what businesses look for when they make decisions to add high-value team members, and you will have the opportunity to learn the skills to present yourself as a competent contributor.

Applied Business Research- Case Study

Learn how to undertake applied business research by working on a case study that will require you to write a research proposal and a research report. As part of your taught sessions, you will learn how to: undertake literature reviews and use electronic databases, analyse data from different sources, do a simple financial evaluation of your recommendations and have a sound theoretical foundation for your research. Further, you will also consider the ethical implications of research and be able to distinguish clearly between primary and secondary research. The main requirement of this paper entails a business research report submission (5,000-7,000 words). Each student will be supervised by an academic supervisor.
