It provides students with practical skills and confidence in research, writing, technological presentations, and test and exam techniques. In addition, students are encouraged to develop skills in time management, self-motivation and goal setting. The aim of this course is to equip participants with the academic skills and confidence to become capable and competent tertiary-literate students.

This paper requires you to attend four hours of contact time each week. These consist of 2x1 hour lectures and 1x2 hour workshop. You will select your workshop time through Moodle. In addition, you will spend substantial periods of time outside these classes independently completing your assignment tasks. More information about time management and how long you should expect to spend on assessment tasks will be given in lectures.
*Workshops start in week 2.

Students who successfully complete the course should be able to:
Assessment
Late Assessment process
You are advised to submit all your work on time.
If you have a genuine reason for needing an extension for any compulsory paper assessment, you must get permission from Dassia or Melanie before the due date. It is your responsibility to make sure your extension has been recorded and permission granted.Late assignments from students whose names are not recorded will be penalised 2 per cent per working day that the assignment is late, up to maximum of 10 per cent.
Special Consideration Process
Special consideration maybe given for missed or impaired assessment. This may be due to illness, a death, or personal problems which may have affected your performance. For all Waikato Pathways College assessed programmes, students must discuss this with their tutors in the first instance.
Applications for special consideration in respect of internal assessment are considered and decided by the examiner of the paper and must be made in writing with supporting evidence not later than three days after the date on which the assessment was due.
* These rules are here but we are very approachable and suggest you contact us as soon as any issue arises.
Assessment Components
The internal assessment/exam ratio (as stated in the University Calendar) is 100:0. There is no final exam.
