This course is designed for senior undergraduate students who bring with them a wealth of experience and skills. You should anticipate some deep readings and lively discussions. This course is designed to ensure that you are learning to work as independently as possible while at the same time learning to recognise the value of group participation. Your independent work should ensure that you are a useful group member. Your classmates independent work should mean that you have a wealth of opinion at your disposal to test your ideas against. Make the most of this opportunity to practice the skills that will enhance your personal career. They are among the skills employers tell us that they are looking for in graduates. Do use the classroom situation to practice your communication and your social skills. Use your assignments to practice collecting and collating material, providing your views on the matter at hand, and presenting an item in a professional manner. This paper is taught in a one three-hour workshop per week. These workshops are structured as a combination of information sharing (e.g., PowerPoint lecture) and student-based discussion. All discussions will be held in class. This course is co-led by Dr. Suzette Dyer and Dr. Hataya Sibunruang. Suzette will present Lecture No. 1 - 5 and Hataya will then come in and lead Lecture No. 6 - 12.

Dr. Suzette Dyer's Teaching: In the first half of the trimester, all classes are conducted on campus with Suzette joining you all in class. For those students who prefer to study remotely due to personal circumstances, all sessions enable you to join us via Zoom.

Dr. Hataya Sibunruang's Teaching: In the second half of the trimester, there is a combination of online and on-campus teaching deliveries. A 1-hour pre-recorded lecture will be prepared and available on Moodle for each week. The on-campus workshop will be conducted at the same time and same venue but with a relatively shorter duration, specifically between 1 and 1.5 hours. The workshop on Wednesday (run by our tutor) will be discussion based, building on the content learnt in the lecture. Similar to the first half of the trimester, online students can also join these on-campus sessions via Zoom. Given the COVID pandemic that has been ongoing since last year, Dr. Hataya still has not been able to enter New Zealand due to border closures. Due to such travel restrictions, we have to adapt our teaching deliveries accordingly.

For Students: Students are required to prepare for class by reading the weekly articles and through small preparation tasks. The readings are linked through library ‘find reading lists’, and the preparation tasks will be assigned at the end of each lecture. In addition, between weeks two and four, students are required to attend a 45 minute career guidance session. This session is free, and is facilitated by a University careers guidance advisor. The guidance session can be conducted either at the Hamilton campus in the student Centre, at the Tauranga campus or via zoom. Course lecture notes are available each week from Moodle. All written assignments are to be submitted online through Moodle, and these will be electronically marked and returned.

IMPORTANT: Given the Flexi mode of this paper, online students can join all on-campus classes via Zoom.
