Coaching is fundamental to supporting the development of athletes across participation, development and high performance contexts. The purpose of this paper is to introduce students to the study of sport coaching, providing students with the knowledge and skills required to design and deliver high quality coaching sessions. Students will be encouraged to think critically about the role of the coach in providing access and inclusion across a variety of sports contexts. The paper provides students with a range of opportunities to participate in a range of practical activities related to coaching and coaching practice.

Classes will contain a combination of weekly lectures, workshop and online activities (readings). Students are expected to complete these readings in order to be able to contribute to discussions as part of in-class work.

Workshops will be held weekly commencing in week two. Attending the weekly two-hour workshops in person is important for your learning and development.

Lecture notes and panopto recordings* will be uploaded to the HSHIP102 Moodle Page.

*panopto will only be available if for some reason lectures are not held in person.

You will be expected to both participate (expect to be active in sessions) and lead coaching practice on a weekly basis in the workshops. Please turn up prepared to take part in sessions. You may need indoor and outdoor clothing in preparation for this each week.
