Organisations are increasingly dependent on digital communication technologies to succeed in their local, as well as global, communities. One critical component of such success is the management of virtual work groups and teams across division, regional, and national borders. In this paper, students will explore effective virtual team communication, research, and practice issues for fostering cooperation and collaboration, and managing virtual team projects in organisational contexts.

1 :As a 15point paper MCOM502 requires 150 learning hours across the semester. These 150 hours include reading the online resources, preparing for Zoom Conversations and working on assignments. In short, allow between 10 to 13 hours each week across the semester (12 weeks of classes; 2 weeks of teaching recess; 1 study week).
2 :For students who are new to online learning, extra time may be needed. Generally, your class time will be spent:
  • Reading through the online journal articles, other resources, and contributions to the online discussion
  • Researching related information and literature in the course readings and from other sources
  • Preparing your reading journal and your responses to others' journals each week, as well as case study questions and activities; thinking, reflecting, questioning, summarising, sharing
  • Experiencing online communication as virtual team members
  • Maintaining contact with teaching staff and other participants
