This paper continues on from MAORI111-18C(HAM) and will continue to develop and extend the skills of students' in listening, speaking, reading and writing. Students will be introduced to more grammatical structures; to enhance their ability to understand and speak te reo Māori. New structures and words relating to food, clothing, parts of the body, and protocols about a marae will be included. This will provide the students with the necessary information about Māori culture portrayed in the aspects of the Māori language learnt, so that the student has an appreciation of Māori philosophies, beliefs and values.

The initial medium of delivery for this paper favours a bilingual approach with the aim of gradually moving toward an immersion delivery by final week of the paper. The teaching strategies are based on Māori pedagogical practices and communicative language teaching methodology where possible. This paper is taught by way of lectures and is also supported Moodle.

Assessments for this paper are directly aligned with the learning outcomes of this paper whereby in preparation for oral tests students will learn new words and sentence constructions pertaining to the topics covered in this paper. Students will be expected to reproduce the new words and sentence constructions in the appropriate contextual situation in an oral presentation. Through the various written, online and listening assessments for this paper, students will be tested on their learning and the relevance of the application of the new words and constructions learnt.
