What this paper is about

Edit What this paper is about Content
This is the capstone paper for the Graduate Certificate or Minor in Project Management. It builds on the learnings of the other three papers in the subject, applying key concepts to real-world project management situations to identify where theory intersects with practice, and where it doesn't.

How this paper will be taught

Edit How this paper will be taught Content

The paper employs a case-based approach to apply the learnings from the other project management papers (PRMGT300, PRMGT301, & PRMGT302) and explore their relevance to real-world projects. This includes having the opportunity to explore projects that students have been personally involved in. From this, and the various cases and examples presented in the paper, students will gain an appreciation of typical project challenges and success factors.

The case-based approach will also allow students to research and deconstruct both well-known and less well-known, multi-faceted projects, to uncover causes of success and failure. Some of these cases will be provided as weekly readings, while three others will be part of assessment items.

In this trimester, the projects under investigation include the Queensland Health Payroll Project. Students will explore this, in detail, from a project management perspective, identifying key principles and concepts from PRMGT300, PRMGT301, & PRMGT302. This case will form the basis of the Annotated Bibliography and the Project Summary and Analysis.

Students will examine a different case study, focusing on how the examples relates to project management 'theory', presenting their analysis in the form of a mind map. The case for this assessment is Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine.

In addition, in teaching weeks 3, 5, 7, and 9, students will be required to submit a 100-word answer to a specific question relating to the third case on the BBC's Digital Media Initiative.

To account for any students taking the capstone paper at the same time as the other papers in the graduate certificate, assessment due dates are largely weighted towards the second half of the trimester - however given that all assessment is provided at the start of the trimester, you are welcome to submit your assessment early if you wish.

Aside from the assessment deadlines, this paper is self-paced, and students will need to manage their time appropriately to complete the assessment on time.

There are no lectures for this paper. However, you will receive regular messages from the paper convenors including relevant case studies, news items, interesting articles, assessment suggestions, etc.
