Paper Description
This paper draws on critical and ecological approaches to examine social psychological knowledge and its contribution to understanding the challenges and impacts of poverty, inequality, discrimination, privilege and power across diverse Aotearoa.
Lecturers contributing to this course are: Dr Ottilie Stolte, Dr Jaimie Veale, Dr Apo Aporossa and Dr Jane Furness from the University of Waikato. Guest lecturers include Professor Darrin Hodgetts (Societal Psychologist, Massey University) Dr Neville Robertson (Community Psychologist), Dr Ingrid Huygens (Community Psychologist / Treaty of Waitangi practitioner) and Dr Arama Rata.
Paper Structure
This course is made up of twelve 2-hour lectures, one 1-2 hour lab per week, weekly set readings, weekly online mastery quizzes, a reflective essay and an exam.

Students who successfully complete the paper should be able to:

To pass this course, students MUST obtain a total mark of 50% or more.
Assessment Components
The internal assessment/exam ratio (as stated in the University Calendar) is 67:33. The final exam makes up 33% of the overall mark.

Lecture materials
The lecture slides and any other materials for each week's lecture will be posted into Moodle in the "Lecture Slides” folder. You are strongly advised to further supplement lecture materials with your own notes and notes that you take from the prescribed readings. Lectures will usually be recorded and be available on panopto for reviewing. However this is not a flexipaper. You are expected to come to lectures (as well as tutorials) where you will get the most benefit from active participation.

This course makes use of the online teaching forum called ‘Moodle’ @ http://elearn.waikato.ac.nz/
