Paper Description

Edit Paper Description Content
This paper explores supply chain strategies and examines how e-commerce and advanced information systems enable increased supply chain competitiveness. The approaches to configuring supply chains to offer high degrees of customization will be reviewed in line with the need to align strategy with the market segment.SCMGT577 is normally offered in Asynchronous FLEXI mode. However, for trimester 2022B, because there are very few students and many cannot attend the physical classroom, the paper is bring offered in Synchronous FLEXI mode.

‘Synchronous FLEXI’ info:

‘Synchronous’ simply means that some elements of the paper will require that the remotely-based students will need to be online at specified times.

‘FLEXI’ teaching and learning strategies combine independent online study with in-class engagement (in person or via Zoom), to achieve the complete learning experience. Videos, slideshows, and other Moodle resources help prepare students for these ‘face-to-face’ sessions in which activities offer insights that help scaffold learning. Please note that you are responsible for completing all of the online materials and tasks before ‘attending’ classroom sessions, to achieve your learning goals.

The Tuesday sessions will tend to summarise the central issues contained in the slideshows and other Moodle materials, perhaps by using illustrative cases. Friday sessions will typically include student presentations and discussions of substantive cases. Every session will be recorded and placed on Moodle to help students who have a legitimate reason for not ‘attending’. Regular group work is an integral part of this paper.

As this is a capstone paper that tends to have most students from the Digital Business major or Supply Chain Management major, little prior knowledge can be assumed. Clearly, it is not possible in the time available to make you an expert in either discipline. However, after taking the paper, students should be well placed to work in contemporary organizations that compete by being flexible and agile in meeting customer needs.

Given the rapidly changing subject matter, you are encouraged to use smartphones or other wireless devices to access online sources in class. However, the prevalence of unsubstantiated 'facts' makes it imperative to check your online sources' validity. Hearsay, 'armchair expert' opinion, thinly disguised marketing; old 'facts'; and sweeping generalisations require you to consider the Accuracy; Authority; Objectivity; Currency; and Coverage of your online sources (refer to http://guides.library.cornell.edu/evaluating_Web_pages).
