Paper Description

Edit Paper Description Content

The focus of STMGT304 is to provide resources, examples and materials to students, supporting them in the development and start-up of their own businesses - as well as to act entrepreneurially in firms of all sizes, by adding to/changing/reducing the business in form of new opportunities.

Entrepreneurship is not merely a function of small or new businesses, but also connects with the culture in large firms, where innovation and the creativity to excel are important cultural features to succeed. Supporting, understanding and functioning in an entrepreneurial culture is a vital ingredient to a successful management career. Course materials focus on practical tasks required by entrepreneurs, as to be relevant in day-to-day business. This paper integrates current business news with the course materials, from New Zealand and other countries, to assure that all materials are up-to-date and relevant.

This paper is supported through the STMGT304 Moodle page, where assessments and handout materials are posted, questions are answered and group presentation/report performance is supported. There are no tutorials in this paper; the interactive Moodle page takes over the support otherwise offered through tutorials.

Tauranga students should attend the final presentation of their proposal in the Pressure Pitch format in Hamilton in person, but may also contribute via video feed, if there is absolutely no way to make it to Hamilton for the very last class session.

  • Fortnightly Zoom calls for group discussion (as needed);
  • An interactive Moodle page for sharing resources and insights. STMGT304 culminates in a Pressure Pitch - with students presenting their venture to a judging panel of external entrepreneurs and business people.
