What this paper is about
This paper provides opportunities to extend understanding of learning and teaching literacy with a focus on evidence-based practice and inquiry. Students extend their knowledge of research-based frameworks, curriculum documents and assessment, and apply this to practice. Critical and reflective thinking is encouraged, as a range of perspective are explored in relation to the demands of using literacy in today's society and classroom settings.
How this paper will be taught
This paper runs from Weeks 9-44. The first half of the paper is spread across the twelve weeks of trimester A and the second half of the paper concentrated into week 28, prior to your Professional Experience, and weeks 40-44 after your Professional Experience. You must attend one two-hour tutorial each week, as scheduled below, and view the panopto lecture available in Moodle prior to coming to class. Tutorial 01 below is for trimester A and tutorial 02 for B trimester. The paper requires 150 hours focus in total so any remaining hours outside of set requirements should be used for independent study and assignment preparation.

How you will be assessed
The three assignments for this paper are closely integrated with the content of the paper sessions / modules, and are designed to assist you to develop the understandings and competencies outlined in the teaching / learning outcomes. The paper will be assessed in accordance with the School of Education Te Kura Toi Tangata Regulations for papers in the Graduate Diploma of Teaching and the Bachelor of Teaching Degree.
This paper is internally assessed. All assignments are compulsory. Details are set out below.
The internal assessment/exam ratio (as stated in the University Calendar) is 100:0. There is no final exam.
