This paper provides opportunities to extend understanding of learning and teaching literacy with a focus on evidence-based practice and inquiry. Students extend their knowledge of research-based frameworks, curriculum documents and assessment, and apply this to practice. Critical and reflective thinking is encouraged, as a range of perspective are explored in relation to the demands of using literacy in today's society and classroom settings.

This paper is taught online during the 12 weeks of trimester A. Coursework online consists of viewing recorded lectures, weekly tasks in Moodle and readings, along with some zoom sessions. The paper requires 150 hours focus in total so any remaining hours outside of set requirements should be used for independent study and assignment preparation.

The three assignments for this paper are closely integrated with the content of the paper sessions / modules, and are designed to assist you to develop the understandings and competencies outlined in the teaching / learning outcomes. The paper will be assessed in accordance with the School of Education Te Kura Toi Tangata Regulations for papers in the Graduate Diploma of Teaching and the Bachelor of Teaching Degree.

This paper is internally assessed. All assignments are compulsory. Details are set out below.
