Paper Description
The internship paper provides students with an opportunity to gain a supervised practical experience prior to entering the workplace and allows students to identify strengths and weaknesses via a reflective evaluation of their work.
- Internships combine practical as well as academic supervision to help the student’s transition into the workplace.
- Eligible students are responsible for finding an organisation that would be willing to supervise them as interns. Students can seek potential organisations on MyWIL or the WSAFE396 paper convenor is available to help with suggestions and guidance.
- Students will contact the potential internship host organisation in a professional and respectful manner and follow the paper resource on Moodle: A guide for finding and contacting the host organisation for internship placement.
- When contacting a potential internship host, students should refer to the MyWIL system and use WSAFE396 resources on Moodle: An example for a cover letter / email, a guide to the internship host, an example for a letter from the internship host and host final evaluation form.
- The internship depends on approval by the MyWIL Convenor based on a job / project description signed by a representative of the internship host organisation. Students should use the MyWIL for approval of the host organisation.
- By the end of week two an internship host organisation should be agreed and the student able to work.
- Please note: Until you have an approved host, no work will be accepted.
- The host organisation will agree in advance to provide supervision and to submit to MyWIL an evaluation report on the intern’s work. The student is responsible for submitting to MyWIL an agreement form signed by the host of the internship.
- The intern will submit over the semester academic assignments reporting and reflecting on the progress and the contribution the intern has made - refer to assessments and the schedule for more information.
- The intern will sign a written commitment to keep confidential all information that belongs to the organisation.
- In case of problems, it is the responsibility of the intern to involve the paper convenor immediately.
- No credit can be given to work done by the student prior to signing in to WSAFE396 via MyWIL.
