‘99’ Timeline

Initial Proposal and Timeline for Supervisory MeetingsTo commence your study in this paper you will need to complete an initial proposal form through MyWIL. This form can be completed incrementally as you meet with your WIL Subject Convenor and potential supervisor, and decide on a topic and methodology.

For assistance in using the MyWiL software please contact MSC msc@waikato.ac.nz

You will need to discuss your study options with the WIL Convenor in your major subject area and they will discuss potential topics and who might be best to supervise you for this investigation. It may be that you have already decided on a topic and a supervisor, if that is the case, please advise the WIL Convenor during your initial discussion.

You will need to meet with your supervisor prior to finally submitting your initial proposal form as you will need to include your Proposed Topic and also the Methodology and data source, on the form. Please also note the name of your Supervisor on the form for clarity. Once you have submitted your proposal form through MyWIL it will be sent to the WIL Convenor in your major subject area who will forward the form to your assigned supervisor for final confirmation.

Following submission of the form in MyWIL, please arrange a meeting time with your Supervisor to ensure that you put in place the timeline for your research and submission of draft and final reports. You will see this document on Moodle.

Please note that if you are planning to source your own data or using data from an organisation you may need to seek ethics approval or gain approval from the organisation that owns the data and this can take some time. The source of your data should be discussed with your supervisor or host organisation when completing your initial proposal form.

If you are NOT undertaking a desk study, you will also need to submit a research ethics application BEFORE you begin primary data collection (the ’99’ Student Guide in Moodle contains more information).

Note : If you are using secondary data, then an ethics application is not required.

Liaise with your supervisor at least every two weeks, via email. Meet face to face as necessary either on Zoom, or in person should alert levels allow.

Draft Report (due 31 January 2022)

Submit your draft report via Moodle and receive constructive comments from your supervisor and second assessor (check with your Supervisor regarding this).

Note: The draft report does not carry any weight in your final assessment, but experience shows the better the draft, the better the final report.

Final Report (20 February 2022)

Submit your final ‘99’ report via Moodle for grading.

(Max. 6,000 words for a 399; 12,000 words for a 599)
